Episode List
#201 Nashville Is More Than Country Music
Nashville, the place known as Music City, is far more than just the commercial center of modern Country Music. A home for many traditional and emerging genres, we visit the outstanding store Grimey’s, as well as Vinyl Tap, an up-and-coming contender that serves up a well-curated vinyl collection as well as live performances in a combination record store and hospitable bar. We’ll have our cameras on everything, including a surprise indie record store basement performance with the world-renowned Metallica, as well as a heartwarming story of when the one and only Taylor Swift jumped in to save her favorite indie record during the pandemic.
#202 Atlanta Is 'Hotlanta'
The Roadshow visits a town known as 'Hotlanta', where the Little Five Points District boasts not one but two great record stores. Eric Levin, co-founder of Record Store Day welcomes us to CRIMINAL RECORDS - who got their name from stealing hearts, and then goes a few doors down to the amazing WAX N’ FACTS - a Crate Diggers Delight with a history that includes the B-52's and other New Wave bands. We also hit the west side of Atlanta to JB's RECORD LOUNGE, a store intimately acquainted with the burgeoning Hip Hop scene of Atlanta.
#203 Portland - A Multitude of Indie Record Stores
The city of Portland, Oregon is the home of no less than twenty independent record shops. It's unquestioned leader is Terry Currier’s MUSIC MILLENIUM, a sprawling authoritative garden of musical delights. We’re also going to visit several newer stores such as EVERYDAY MUSIC, JUMP JUMP, and MISSISSIPPI RECORDS.
#204 Seattle - Musical Nirvana
Known as the birthplace of Grunge and Post-Punk Rock, it's a city of some vibrant record stores such as Pearl Jam & Brandi Carlisle's favorite - EASY STREET RECORDS, along with ZION'S GATE RECORDS, SONIC BOOM, LIGHT IN THE ATTIC, and we even managed a trip to the MUSEUM OF POP CULTURE, where they welcomed us and our cameras with welcoming arms.
#205 Specialty Indie Record Stores
We're fascinated when finding shoppes that have a unique focus or genre of music. The stores in this episode are examples of a singular vision devoted to that idea. These stores are always a labor of love often conceived and run by one person. Just a few that we visited are: SELECTOR RECORDS - EDM / DANCE, BLACK WATER - INDIE HEAVY METAL & PUNK DOMINO SOUND - WORLD MUSIC, and THIRD MAN RECORDS - ROCK SUPERSTAR JACK WHITE'S LABEL & RETAIL STORE.
#206 Crate Diggers & Hip Hop
It's impossible to imagine the birth of Hip Hop without the sonic reality of vinyl records. What started out as a Do-it-Yourself experiment by the club DJs in the 5 Burroughs of New York, is now a dominant reality worldwide. The Roadshow speaks to Hip Hop practitioners including Daryl McDaniels (aka: DMC) as well as other Hip Hop professionals.
