This one-hour documentary film was produced and presented by WXXI Public Media as a co-production with the Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance.

The Finger Lakes region holds a special, unique and important place in the history of New York State.

In this documentary film shot over the course of an entire year, we sojourn through the seasons, exploring each lake with stunning aerial videography. Each lake is part of a broader region rich with history and culture. We delve deeper to understand how the past influences the present and future and has impacted issues of regional and national importance.

We explore the region from the geologic perspective back to the Pleistocene Era, the effects of landscape and weather on industry, agriculture and community development, the historical figures that influenced national issues in critical ways and those innovators creating the diverse cultural landscape synonymous with the now popular Finger Lakes region.
