For 51 years, the NETA Awards have recognized excellence in programming, education, marketing/communications and community engagement among our 276 member stations. In keeping with this excellence, NETA is excited to unveil a new name, narrative and visual identity for these awards that represent the caliber of our organization, and just as importantly, the caliber of our members, who go above and beyond to serve their communities. Introducing the Public Media Awards presented by NETA, or the PMAs for short.
The Public Media Awards honor our members' finest work in education, community engagement, marketing/communications and content. For the 2020 awards, NETA has added award categories recognizing excellence in podcasts, in-person learning events and digital media use as well as awards in each category specific to the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Under the direction of a system steering committee, the awards continue to evolve and adapt to reflect and celebrate the work of our member stations. We are all very excited to see our members’ submissions in these new categories,” said Eric Hyyppa, president of NETA.
NETA partnered with The Brand Consultancy to develop the new awards program identity. Realizing that we are stronger together, NETA used the concept of a mosaic as inspiration. The awards recognize a mosaic of the highest caliber programming, education, marketing/communications and engagement. Piece by piece and member by member, we come together as choreographers of the public good, to spark more imagination and inspiration than we ever could have alone.
“The look and feel of our new identity mirrors the concept of a mosaic. It is bold, inspiring and showcases the diversity of our members’ content and the many valuable ways it is delivered. The partnership with The Brand Consultancy has been instrumental in helping NETA consider how to position these awards to stand out in the marketplace and evoke pride within our membership," Hyyppa said.
NETA Members will be able to begin entering the awards on July 7 at neta.awardsplatform.com with early bird entry running through Aug. 14 and the regular entry period ending on Sept. 18. The eligibility window for entries will be from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020.
