JOURNEYMAN is a one-hour documentary which follows Mike and Joe, two teenage boys from diverse backgrounds who struggle with depression and violence. Their behavior has brought them to the attention of the system as “at risk” boys. Through Mike and Joe Journeyman explores an emotional and psychological crisis evident in American boys and men, which is finally being noticed in the mainstream because of the increasing violence and poor school performance of boys. Journeyman’s second and converging story is about the boy’s mentors who are on their own emotional journey, learning through the mentoring relationship to uncover and face their own unresolved issues from childhood.
What is it actually like to live the life of a teenage boy in our America? JOURNEYMAN charts the journey of two teenage boys on their lost-and- found journey to authentic manhood through some unique people, programs, and rituals that are helping them on their way.
Journeyman won 2008 best documentary awards at the Gloria and Landlocked film festivals.
