Blue Ridge Public TV Cuts Costs, Increases Value

(March 2004) -- Blue Ridge Public Television  and the NETA Business Center are collaborating to enhance the quality and cost effectiveness of Blue Ridge Public Television’s business functions.

"NETA Business Center created a service package to meet our specific needs, a package that will result in significant savings and flexibility for us," said Blue Ridge Public Television President and General Manager Jack Neal.

The station is outsourcing accounting, some payroll reporting, annual audit and reporting activities, and some human resource functions, eventually eliminating one managerial position. "We see this decision to outsource as one that will help us to cope with increasing demands and limited resources. NETA will provide timely financial data and analyses that will strengthen our ability to make informed resource allocation decisions at the right times," said Neal. Scott Davidson, who has held the position of Chief Financial Officer at Blue Ridge Public Television since 1999, will oversee the transition. He will remain as consultant to NETA and Blue Ridge Public Television after his full time employment has ended.

After meetings with NETA to discuss Blue Ridge Public Television’s needs, an individualized service plan was agreed upon, and the services start-up process will begin running parallel with existing in-house functions June 1, 2004. "We are already working with Blue Ridge Public Television staff on the exporting and importing of data and are scheduled to go live July 1," said NETA Director of Finance Anita Sims.

By collaborating with NETA, Blue Ridge Public Television will both save money and make use of the organization’s considerable knowledge and experience in the public broadcasting arena.
