  This series addresses issues that affect interaction with and instruction for children with special physical, emotional, and medical needs.  This series was supported in part by an award from the NETA Educational Production Fund.  Segments provide strategies and resources for teachers challenged by the growth of inclusive classes and include discussions of the role of families.

  1. “Cultural Diversity” addresses cultural differences that affect services to special needs students and communication with parents. (28:57)   2. “Health Problems” shows how students with health problems receive services on a general education campus. (59:32)   3. “Families and Children with Special Needs” examines family involvement in the special education mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Act and presents strategies for coping with a disability in the family. (59:20)   4. “The Paraeducator” focuses on the roles and duties of paraeducators and how they can positively interact with teachers and students. (58:25)   5. “Child Abuse and Neglect” presents tips on abuse and neglect detection and strategies for action. (59:06)   6. “Collaboration and Teaming” shows how educators skilled in team strategies can provide better services to students with special needs. (58:55)
