2010 may mean no raises, but it sure doesn't mean no
recognition.
Your sweet rewards are waiting for
you.
You're
also welcome to email Gayle Loeber with Awards questions or
concerns:

I have to include a
budget summary. What's a budget summary?
We mean the simplest budget
breakdown that you can provide for the judges so that they have an
overview
of the production costs for your project. It
should be not more than one page. Be sure to distinguish between
cash expenses, in-kind, and underwritten
costs/sponsorships. It is quite appropriate to highlight any
special cost savings due to innovative/creative
strategies. (Hint, hint.)
What
do you mean by narrative?
Tell the judges
about your project's goals, challenges, and measurable results (Judges *love* to read about
results.). Give
the judges the best overall sense of what it took to complete your
project, why it was important,
who your partners were, how you
promoted it, and what kind of response it received from
viewers/participants.
Use your two pages wisely...a one-paragraph
narrative is seldom enough to create a complete picture for the
judges. Tell the story--!
Why
do you divide the competition between large stations and small
stations?
To level the playing field as much as
possible. NETA recognizes that
state networks do things differently
than a licensee with a total staff of
20. If we did not make the distinction, big budget projects
would tend to
overshadow
smaller ones.
Can
I send both sets in the same box?
Yes, but please put each
set into an individual envelope (or binder) and label everything
very clearly.
In the Promotion category, what
does Single Video mean?
Single Video refers to
an interstitial, a filler, a corporate/institutional
mission spot, or a promotional spot.
Something less than a full-length program, and meant to stand alone.
I
have submitted a check request, but I won't get the check in time to
mail with the entries...is
that okay?
Yes, but please
include a memo to that effect with your entry so that we don't
invoice you.
Will
NETA accept a personal check for entry fees?
Yes, but be sure
that the general manager for the submitting station has signed the
entry form.
Do
you require colorbars and/or a slate on programs?
No, with
or without is acceptable.
Can
I enter a project---or a component of a project---in more than one
category?
Yes. Please
do.
Define "live performance."
Live performance
is video of an artist, or group of artists, performing their craft
onstage.
How
many episodes do you want for a series entry?
At least two,
no more than three. Save your money, and
please do not send more than 3.
For
websites, do they have to be "live" at the time of judging?
Websites, Facebook etc. may be
cached, or the judges must be
able to view the site live.
Printed
web pages are not acceptable for the Website or Instructional Media
Product categories---judges
must be able to navigate the site and
test its features.
What
is the difference between an national project and a licensee project
under Outreach?
When a station
creates an outreach effort around a nationally distributed program,
such as The War,
this falls under Outreach Based on a
National Project.
When a
station creates an outreach effort around a their own production or
initiative, such as a call-in health
program, this falls under
Outreach Based on a Local Project.
I'm
not sure what category is best for my project. What do I
do?
Use your best judgment, and keep in mind that the judges can
move your entry to a different category if
that seems appropriate to
them. You will not be disqualified for entering in the ’wrong’
category – don’t worry.
I
entered my project last year and it didn't win. Can I enter it
again?
No. See the
eligibility
period requirements.
My
station is a NETA program service subscriber...are we eligible to
enter?
No, sorry. The
Awards honor the work of NETA member
stations. You should join NETA. The awards are
just the cherry on top of all station-centered work that NETA
does, all year long.
We would truly
welcome your station as a member. To become a NETA member, contact
Skip Hinton (our president) at 803-799-5517, ext. 106, or email him at skip@netaonline.org.
I am
an independent co-producer of this program... am I eligible to enter
it?
Only the
NETA member
station is eligible to enter, and they must demonstrate that
they were responsible
for majority funding and editorial control on
the project.
The
member station
must have sole or shared copyright.
Why
is the General Manager's signature required?
Because the NETA
Awards is a national competition and it would be inappropriate for
NETA to accept an entry
without executive approval from the
station.
My
General Manager is out of the country...can anyone else sign the
application?
Whoever is
authorized to sign documents in the absence of the GM may sign the
awards entry form.
Who
is notified if we win?
The contact
person specified on the entry form, as well as the General Manager.
Winners will be notified
in time to take advantage of the early-bird
registration discount for the NETA Conference in January 2011.
What
do we win?
A beautiful engraved trophy and legendary fame.

last year's winners here.
