CATEGORIES

Instructional

ITV Program recognizes member-produced individual programs for K-12 and postsecondary classroom use.
  
ITV Series recognizes a series of two or more programs for K-12 and postsecondary classroom use; programs will be judged as a group with emphasis on consistent quality and production value.
  
Inservice/Staff Development recognizes member-produced programs or series for training and professional development in the field of education.
  
Instructional Media Product r
ecognizes products such as multimedia instructional packages (any combination of print/ software/Web components), CD/DVD products, teleconferences, and instructional computer software designed for classroom use.
  
Teacher Resource recognizes resources, in print or electronic format, such as annual ITV schedules, ITV newsletters, teacher guides, ITV posters, and websites designed specifically for educators.

Outreach

Outreach Based on National Project recognizes outreach campaigns based on and localized from resources provided by a national project.
  
Outreach Based on Licensee Project recognizes outreach campaigns conceived and implemented within the licensee’s station and community, using local resources.
  
Community Impact recognizes outreach efforts that show measurable and significant impact on the target community(ies). Focus is on proof of performance, call to action, and evidence of community and/or individual change.

Program Production

News & Public Affairs recognizes local or field-based coverage of town meetings, cultural dialogue, legislative activity, call-ins, interviews, and sports.
  
Performance recognizes specials or individual programs in a series including music, drama, dance, and comedy;
at least 50 percent of the program must be devoted to live performance.
 
Information recognizes specials or individual programs in a series intended to communicate skills or information (e.g., how-to, travel, medicine & health, and magazine shows).
  
Drama/Narrative recognizes specials or individual programs in a series based on an original script or literary work.
  
Documentary* Series recognizes a series of two or more programs; the programs are judged together, with emphasis on consistent excellence and production values.
  
Documentary* Historical recognizes specials or individual programs in a series on past social, cultural, military, or political events.
   
Documentary* Science & Nature recognizes specials or individual programs in a series devoted to technology, medical science, natural history, wildlife, etc.
 
Documentary* Biography recognizes specials or individual programs from a series that are biographical in content.
  
*Documentary: a program that is field-based, single topic, researched, and edited to a minimum length of 30 minutes.

Promotion

Local Campaign may include any combination of television/radio spots, print materials, events, advertisements, and other promotional items forming a single campaign effort.
  
National Campaign may include any combination of television/radio spots, print materials, events, advertisements, and other promotion items forming a single campaign effort.
  
Corporate/Institutional Promotion recognizes campaigns and activities (broadcast or nonbroadcast) designed to increase general community awareness of the member’s identity, services, and objectives.
  
Print Design recognizes single print items such as brochures, posters, annual reports, special program guide issues or redesigns, advertisements, and press packets created by members to promote awareness, activities, schedules, programs, and series.
  
Single Video recognizes individual spots or breaks (four minutes or less) created to promote awareness, activities, events, programs, or schedules.
   
Website recognizes sites created to promote awareness, activities, schedules, programs, and series. Judges must be able to either visit the site online or on disk during the judging process.
  
Special Event recognizes the planning and implementation, and results of any station sponsored event.

Eligibility:

Only NETA-member public television stations (link) and affiliate members of the Center for Instructional Communications may enter.
      
Any number of entries in any number of categories may be submitted.
  
Programs that are produced or coproduced by a member station are eligible for this competition.
Members who submit coproductions must demonstrate that any production outsourcing was "work for hire," with the member responsible for majority funding and editorial control.
  
For all submissions, the member must have sole or shared copyright.

Eligibility Period: Premier broadcast, publication, or event must have taken place between April 1, 2004, and March 31, 2005. Web entries must have been available online during this period.

   Entry Deadline:
  June 1, 2005. Winners' station managers/GMs will be notified prior to the NETA
  Conference preregistration deadline.
  
  Entry Fee: $50 per entry.
  The following methods of payment are acceptable: enclosed
  check or purchase order (NETA will invoice) or MasterCard/VISA
  (signed form must be faxed or mailed).
  
  Entry Materials: Each entry must contain TWO identical sets of
  clearly labeled materials, including a completed entry form, a
  brief narrative describing the project (no more than two pages),
  and a budget summary of cash, "in-kind," and underwritten expenses.
  
  How To Send Entry Materials: Please do not mount posters or printed material.
  Mark VHS tapes, DVDs, and audiocassettes as mono or stereo and label with
  program title, station, recording length, and award category. All programs and
  broadcast promos must be in DVD or VHS format for judging.
  Unlabeled media will be disqualified.
    
  Each entry must consist of TWO complete sets of materials, clearly labeled, and individually
  packaged in sealed shipping envelopes
  (Please do not use fiber-fill envelopes. The fibrous material makes videotapes un-playable).

  Each set must include a completed entry form, narrative, and budget summary; both individually
  packaged sets may be sent  in one box.
   
  Stations that win an award for a video entry may be asked to submit an additional BETA format
  tape, or a DVD, of their  program. Winning entries will be incorporated into the NETA RoadShow,
  a portable professional development kit, which is made available to all public television stations
  for in-house use.
 
  Entries will not be returned.

  NETA will not be responsible for entries lost, delayed, or damaged in shipping.

  Judging:
   
  The competition is divided into two levels based on the most recent NFFS reports.
  Competing stations are divided at the $5 million mark. NETA will place entries into
  the appropriate  level for judging and a winner will be selected at each level
  in every category at the judges’ discretion. Entries are judged on creativity,
  originality, effectiveness, and overall excellence.  At the judges’ discretion, "Best
  of Show" or other special awards may be designated for entries that merit special
  recognition.
